Two New Blackberry Devices Running Android Leaked!

It is no longer news that the BB OS is dying and nothing can save it, not even BB10.
In a bid to save the company from dying along with it's OS, Blackberry embraced the Android operating system last year and produced the Blackberry PRIV.

That move probably yielded positive results as the Canadian company later announced that it was going to release more android devices before the end of the year 2016.

Images recently released by 51Blackberry show two Blackberry devices running on android.

One of the devices has a physical QWERTY keyboard codenamed ROME, which really looks like the PRIV but without the slider.

While the other one has a full touchscreen display with no physical buttons at all and this one is codenamed HAMBURG.

The HAMBURG is rumored to have a price tag around $400 and will hopefully be launched in the second half of the year. Unfortunately, nothing is known about the ROME.

Blackberry Priv Receives Android Marshmallow Update

After a 'not-so-long' wait, Blackberry Priv devices have started receiving Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update from yesterday.
On April 26th, Blackberry announced that the Blackberry Priv -the company's first and only android device-will be receiving a marshmallow treat.

If you own an unlocked Blackberry priv, you might have already received the marshmallow update. However if you haven't, just sit tight it will get to you really soon.

In addition to receiving the marshmallow update, Blackberry is also releasing the monthly security update for the PRIV.

New Features That comes with the marshmallow update on Blackberry priv includes;

More Privacy and Security

You get more ways to monitor and control your privacy and better protect PRIV from malware, hacks and data breaches with Marshmallow on PRIV.

  • Customized Personal Data Permissions – Many apps demand access to personal data, even when it’s not necessary for the app to function properly, but DTEK now gives you the power to control what to share and when. You can turn permissions off at any time and still continue to use the app.

  • Clearer Notification Settings – You’ll only see notification controls for sensors that an app has specifically requested access to. For example, if an application doesn’t request microphone access, it will not appear in the list.

  • S/MIME Support – The new S/MIME feature in BlackBerry Hub lets you digitally sign and encrypt your emails, adding another level of security to your communications.

Enhanced BlackBerry Keyboard

The PRIV’s Keyboard has been updated to provide better predictive typing, accuracy and control with these new features.

  • More Emoji – You’ll have access to over 200 new and updated emojis.

  • New Keyboard Gestures – The new swipe feature allows you to drag your finger across the keys to enter words on the virtual and/or physical keyboard(just like flow-typing on swift key).

  • Enhanced Word Prediction – The keyboard anticipates your next word based on where you place your fingers on keys. Also, predictive typing learns words with numbers and delivers better name suggestions based on your contacts.

  • Better Cursor Control – Activate “Cursor Control” mode on the physical keyboard for easier positioning and control. You can accurately place the cursor on the screen by tapping a key on the physical keyboard.

Falcon M - Hub UI newBetter Notifications

With Android Marshmallow on PRIV, you can better organize apps and manage productivity with a touch of a button.

  • Mute Indicator – See the phone’s mute status at a glance via the floating phone indicator that appears when a call is active. You’ll see yellow when your call is muted and green when it isn’t.

  • New Apps in BlackBerry Hub – You can now view notifications from even more of your favorite social media apps – including Instagram, Skype, Slack and Pinterest – directly in BlackBerry Hub to easily manage all your messages in one place.

  • Updated BlackBerry Launcher – Better organize apps and widgets into Recent, Personal and Work sections, and you can set a default home screen, delete a home screen and remove apps with a flick.

Better Battery Life & Storage

Get even more out of PRIV with battery performance and storage updates.

  • Doze – When PRIV is at rest, Doze automatically puts your device into a sleep state to increase standby battery life.

  • App Standby – This new feature keeps infrequently used apps from impacting your battery life.

  • Media Card Encryption Support – You can safely and permanently increase your PRIV’s storage capacity by encrypting your media cards. If your PRIV is lost or stolen, prying eyes can’t take the media card out of your PRIV and view or copy it. This is a feature that many other Android phones do not have.

Camera Upgrades

The PRIV got a few camera upgrades for better images and videos

  • Capture Professional and Cinematic Quality Videos – You can now Record videos at 24fps –which is the standard frame rate used in professional feature-length motion pictures – in 4k, 1080p or 720p for high-quality footage to share on social media.

  • Slow-Motion Video – You can also Capture smooth slow-motion video with the PRIV’s camera. Capture video at 120 fps and play it back smoothly at 30 fps. The slow-motion effect can be applied after taking the video, and it even can be applied to select specific sections of the video. (Audio is not enabled for slow-motion video at this time.)
Just as I said earlier, if you haven't gotten the update yet, relax, there's going to be a large-scale distribution from May 3.

Check Out The Redesigned Package Of The Tecno J8

Tecno recently launched the Tecno boom j8, a device which has turned a lot of heads and got a lot of people talking about it endlessly. Some people even consider it to be one of best phones made by Tecno mobile.
When you buy the tecno boom j8, you get two boxes; one which houses the device and its accessories and the second one which has the free Boom headphones.

However, a graphic designer named Chine from Akanka thinks he has a better idea for the design of the packaging of the Tecno Boom J8.

better design for the tecno boom j8
If you ask me, I'll say this design is way better from the original design of the tecno boom j8. It's got a better colour and cooler design. And it appears I'm not the only one that thinks the design is cool.

Tecno, Itel & Infinix To Start Manufacturing In India

Tecno, Itel & Infinix To Start Manufacturing In India
These three smartphone brands are without a doubt three of the top smartphone brands in Africa right now.

In recent years, Tecno has been at the top of the African mobile market and recently, we have seen infinix rising to an really high spot and itel is just there not really conquering grounds but not so far behind too. With this, it is safe to say that Transsion Holdings, the parent company of these three smartphone brands(infinix, Tecno & iTel) has completely conquered the African mobile market and they are currently planning to move their manufacturing base to India.

N.B - To those who don't know, Infinix Tecno and itel are all owned by the same company(Transsion Holdings).

According to Sudhir Kumar, CEO iTel India;
The idea is to shift the whole manufacturing to India over a period of time.

Transsion Holdings is already planning to have a factory in Noida, India.

In India, infinix, Tecno & iTel will have to compete against already known brands like Micromaxx, Karbonn, Maxx and others. It is a full market already and for the new brands to get a reasonable market share, they need a good marketing strategy.

Transsion Holdings already made its name in Africa where all its smartphone brands are known and widely accepted. Makes you wonder they are moving their manufacturing base to India instead of the African countries where their brands are already known.

You Can Now Reach MTN Customer Care On Whatsapp

Without a doubt, Whatsapp is by far the most popular and most used instant messaging app.
In a bid to make their customer care service better and easier to reach, MTN is trying to squeeze some juice out of the mobile messaging service.

mtn official whatsapp number
Now, MTN subscribers can now reach the MTN customer care service via Whatsapp. No need waiting for hours when calling 180.

These are the whatsapp numbers;

  • 09033000001
  • 09033000002
  • 09033000003
  • 09033000004
  • 09033000005

How It Works?

To contact MTN customer care service via whatsapp, just add up any of the above number and chat with them as you would normally chat with your friends on whatsapp. However you might have to wait a while to get a reply but its nothing compared to how long you'll have to wait if you had called the customer care number.

MTN knows that people might try to mis-use this service by asking annoying or unrelated questions, for example I saw someone who sent a message to them asking them to give him data(mb) to browse.
Due to this, MTN can block users who engage in such mischievous act. It would be best if you try as much as possible to avoid this.

Lagosians You Can Collect Your Reserved Ntel Sim Cards In These Locations

In a previous post, I told you how to reserve your special ntel number which you will use when ntel finally begins operations.
Some of you already reserved your numbers but it seems almost impossible to collect due to lack of collection centres.

The good news is....According to news reaching me, a few ntel collection centres have been opened across Lagos.

where to collect ntel sims

See the pick-up locations below:

PALMGROVE
25, Obanikoro Way, Ilupeju, Off Western Avenue.

OJODU
1568, Damilare Street, Off Berger, Ojodu-Berger.

IKOYI
24, Rumens Road, South West, Ikoyi.

VICTORIA ISLAND
76, Teslim Elias, Off Ahmadu Bello Way.

FESTAC
512 Road, D Close, House 1, Off Redeemed Church, 2nd Gate.

YABA
662 Alake Way, Off Tejuoso, Off Railway Tracks, Yaba.

Sadly, I'm yet to check out any of these locations because none of them happens to be close to where I stay. However, I'll try to make time to check them out.

AND THE BAD NEWS IS....You remember the bonus I said was waiting for you if you are one the first 100,000 people to register their lines? Well....there's been a change of plans..

If you get your SIM card(s) now and you happen to be among the first 100,000 people to subscribe to the NTEL network, that will automatically make you a pioneer member. However, you will only be allowed to make free calls for life to your fellow pioneer members.
And there's no free three months internet. *mtcheeeww*......

Android Marshmallow 6.0 Finally Available For Tecno Camon C8

After waiting such a long time, Android Marshmallow 6.0 is finally available for tecno camon c8. According to 'reliable sources', the update was supposed to be released back in February but there were a few complications so it was delayed for a bit but it is now officially available.
i'm guessing the marshmallow update was inspired by the recently released tecno w4 which came with marshmallow 6.0 out of the box.

Visafone Migration - Visafone Becomes Reborn As A GSM service

Visafone Migration - Visafone Becomes Reborn As A GSM service
In a previous post I wrote early this year, I told you guys that MTN had acquired Visafone and I also mentioned that Visafone was the last surviving CDMA network in Nigeria.  It appears MTN has started working on Visafone because now Visafone is no longer a CDMA service, it has been reborn as a GSM service.
Visafone Customer Migration is a service that migrates Visafone number to the MTN network and function as a GSM service.

These are a few things to note;

  • Is it compulsory? As a Visafone Customer you're required to perform the migration process because Visafone is now owned by MTN and all Visafone lines will now be powered by MTN
  • You are not required to change your number, you still retain your old Visafone number on the MTN network
  • All tariff plans remain unique to Visafone
  • To perform the migration, visit any Visafone or MTN store near you. It is FREE and will be fully activated within 24 hours
  • Sadly, any data or airtime balance you have will not be retained however you'll be duly compensated after the migration
  • After the migration, you will not be able to recharge with Visafone vouchers you will now recharge with MTN using MTN recharge code *555*voucher pin#

This is just the summarised version, for the full article visit Visafone official website here

Tecno W4 - First Tecno Device To Run Android Marshmallow 6.0

Okay I'll admit I didn't know anything about the Tecno W4 before until a reader commented about it in this post here (thanks for the heads up Jude) and because I've never heard of the "Tecno W4" before so I decided to look it up and it is actually a really interesting device.

Tecno W4 runs Android Marshmallow

The Tecno W4 doesn't have so much super specs; it's a mid-ranger but there is one thing about it that caught my eye, you should already know what that is from the topic of this post.

Tecno recently released the Tecno W4 shortly after they released the talked-about Tecno Boom J8.  I'm just wondering why there wasn't much marketing of the device I was just knowing about it yesterday. Was the publicist sleeping or did the Tecno Boom J8 Steal all the shine off this new device??
The Tecno W4 comes preloaded with Android Marshmallow making it the first Tecno device to run Marshmallow straight out of the box; it is the first Tecno phone to run Marshmallow at all, they(Tecno) promised to release a Marshmallow update for Camon C8 in February, it's April already and there's still no sign.

Before I drift off the topic, here's the specifications of the new Tecno W4 ;

Display - 5.0 inch HD touchscreen
Camera - 8MP back camera with flash and 2mp front Camera no flash(which is unfortunate we're starting to get used to phones with front flash like the,  ., Infinix Hot 3 etc).
Operating System - Android Marshmallow 6.0 (The coolest feature I can see)
Battery - 2500mah (removable)
Memory - 1GB RAM meh!... 16GB internal storage.

That's pretty much the important stuff.... Oh! It is priced at N26,500 do you think it's worth it?

Meizu Pro 6 Launch With 4GB RAM 21MP Camera And A Deca-core Proccessor

Recently, many Chinese phones have been pack a lot of crazy specifications, some have way more specifications than what is needed for one device. We have the oukitel K10000 which has a massive 10000mah battery, the Vivo xplay 5 which has a huge 6GB RAM and now we have the Meizu PRO 6 which is pure awesomeness.

Chinko ti take over... Lol

Meizu Pro 6 features 4gb ram

The Meizu PRO 6 is the first deca-core device, though they not the first to announce a deca-core smartphone we heard of Umi Zero 2 and Zopo speed 8 both of which are said to feature a deca-core processor but the Meizu PRO 6 is the deca-core Android device to be commercially available.

The Meizu PRO 6 has a 5.2 inch screen and features 3D Press which is similar to iPhone 6S' 3D touch. The Meizu pro 6 has a super AMOLED screen with a 1080p resolution. The display is protected by a curved 2.5D gorilla glass 3.

Looking at the Meizu PRO 6, you can't help but notice an undeniable resemblance with the iPhone.

Meizu Pro 6 deca-core 4gb ram 21mp camera

The Meizu PRO 6 comes with a MediaTeK x25 chipset and it seems the company has reserved exclusivity over this processor which means the Meizu PRO 6 is most likely the only device that ever run the processor.

The Meizu PRO 6 has a 21MP back camera powered by a Sony IMX230 sensor and this is supported by a ring flash which has 10 LEDs this is first time this is seen on a smartphone. The Meizu PRO 6 has a 5MP front facing camera.
The Meizu PRO 6 has a fingerprint scanner built into the home button.

The Meizu Pro 6 has a 4GB RAM space and a minimum internal storage of 32GB.
Sadly, the Meizu pro 6 comes with a 2650mah battery this is quite small but the good news is that it has a fast charge feature which allows you to charge from 0 to 100 in one hour.
The price of the Meizu pro 6 starts at $385.

Everything We Have On Ntel - Unlimited Data For Three Months On Ntel?

Everything We Have On Ntel - Unlimited Data For Three Months On Ntel?
For months now, we've heard various news about the newly rebranded Ntel.
I will try to squeeze in all we have been able to gather in this post.

Since last month, users have been allowed to reserve their special number prior to the launch.
At the time of writing this post (April 14th), number reservation is still ongoing and you can still take time to reserve your number.

There is also news of the 'supposed' data plans for Ntel;

PlanAmount Validity  Benefits
Smart Phone Starter₦1,0003 daysUnlimited data, 30 minutes  voice calls, SMS
Standard Plan₦2,4007 daysUnlimited Data, 70 minutes calls, SMS
Monthly plans₦9,00030 daysUnlimited data, 300 minutes calls, SMS

Personally I think the tariff plan is two sided, it's got a good side and a bad side. The good side is that the rates are way better than what MTN and other telco's offer. And the bad part is that when you use up to 3GB in a day, your speed is throttled to a miserable 512kb per seconds for the rest of the day.

Unlimited Data For Three Months And Free Calls For LIFE!!!!

Now I'm sure this is the part you're waiting for. News reaching me suggest that for the first 100,000 people to register their Ntel numbers, there is a really mouth-watering freebie waiting for them.
According to reports, the first 100,000 people to register their Ntel numbers will get unlimited data for three months and free voice calls for LIFE!!
Since these are just rumors, remember to take it with a grain of salt.

SPEED??

Ntel is promise a broadband speed reaching 230Mbps. Though this may seem enticing, I advice you still keep your fingers crossed because as we all know start ups are usually filled with promises some of which they may never fulfill. However, if they are able to pull this off I believe it will be a game changer because I have used both Spectranet and Swift and I can say without a doubt that none of them offer such speed.

Airtel Smart Speedo Data Plan - The More You Browse The More Data You Get

Airtel recently launched a new data plan called 'smart speedo' and I can say without a doubt that this is one of the coolest data plans in the industry.

Airtel smart speedo

How Does It Work
Smart Speedo users enjoy really low data rate and 100% data bonus.
Vice President, Data & Digital services at Airtel, Nitin Anand explained how the smart speedo data plan works

When a customer uses up to 10mb at1kobo/kb, Airtel gives him 10mb free.
And when his usage gets to 50mb, the browsing rate drops to 0.5kobo/kb, then he gets 50mb free.
When the customer’s usage reaches 100mb, the rate drops further to 0.2kobo/kb and he is given 100mb free,” Anand' explained.

He further noted that this cycle continues every thereby giving Airtel users a free surf experience.

Smart Speedo uses superfast 3G reaching speeds of up to 42mbps which is almost as fast as 4G.

This Is Why It Has Been hard To Cash Out On Sliide Airtime

Sliide Airtime is a new way to get free airtime directly on your phone.

Sliide Airtime displays latest news and gists on your phone's lockscreen and at the end of the month you get rewarded with free airtime. You also get N100 worth of airtime when you refer someone and the person registers using your code.

What is Sliide Airtime

However, lately it has been really difficult or impossible you cash out the airtime earned and people have started dropping this new app thinking it has stopped working for some reason.

In today's post, I will be telling you why it is hard to cash out your earnings on Sliide.

Sliide Airtime recently published a post on their official Facebook page addressing the issue;

As many of you know we experienced some fraudulent activity during the first few days of Sliide Airtime’s launch. This meant we had to pause a number of user’s accounts whilst we investigated the situation. We know this was a frustrating time for anyone who’s account was paused, and we thank you all for your patience and understanding. We have now finished that investigation and wanted to update you all on what happened:

A number of users found a loop hole in our system, which meant they were able to unfairly earn a large amount of free airtime in their Sliide Airtime accounts. Everyone who earned airtime legitimately has now had their account unblocked, and can continue using Sliide Airtime as normal. Anyone who we found to have earned airtime fraudulently or unfairly has had their Sliide Airtime removed from their Sliide accounts. We chose to do this to protect the vast majority of our users, who have been earning airtime honestly. We are a startup, and if we had paid out the airtime to the people who earned fraudulently, we would not have been able to afford to pay our honest users, and this would not be fair.

We hope that you can all understand our reasoning, and that you will support us in our decision to look after the 99% of our users who are using the app honestly.

Whatsapp Now Encrypts Every Message : What Does it Mean?

Whatsapp has recently added a new feature to the popular messaging app which prevents third-parties from eavesdropping on your chats.

Whatsapp End-to-end encryption

This means that all messages sent with the app will be end-to-end encrypted: When the message leaves the sender's phone, it is turned to a series of numbers and alphabet that only the intended recipient's phone can decipher.

Okay.... But what does it really mean??

According to a blog post by Whatsapp;

"The idea is simple: when you send a message, the only person who can read it is the person or group chat that you send that message to. No one can see inside that message. Not cybercriminals. Not hackers. Not oppressive regimes. Not even us. End-to-end encryption helps make communication via WhatsApp private – sort of like a face-to-face conversation."

They further went on to say that "your messages are secured with a lock, and only the recipient and you have the special key needed to unlock and read them. For added protection, every message you send has its own unique lock and key. All of this happens automatically: No need to turn on settings or set up special secret chats to secure your messages.

Also, it's not just your messages that are going to be encrypted, Whatsapp calls and group chats are also encrypted.

To activate the new end-to-end encryption for whatsapp messages all you have to do is update your whatsapp to the latest version available. Note that the recipient also has to update his/her whatsapp too.

New System Update For Infinix Hot 2 Fixes Marshmallow 6.0 Bugs

Google is actually making good on their promise to constantly release timely system updates for the Infinix Hot 2. As they promised, Android marshmallow 6.0 was released for the infinix hot 2 but....unfortunately, the update was filled with a lot of bugs. We saw people complaining about poor camera quality, contacts name not showing, not seeing your storage space and many more. It was so bad that some many people started downgrading back to Lollipop 5.1.

However, the good news is that a new security patch update have been released for the infinix hot 2 and the new update fixes most--if not all-- of these bugs found on the previous marshmallow 6.0 version for the infinix hot 2. And to make this update even better, an RAM booster have been included.

If you already run marshmallow 6.0 on your infinix hot 2, all you have to do is go to system update and update directly from there. Make sure you have a steady connection before you do this, I best advice you update over a WiFi Network.

If your device is rooted, make sure you first fully unroot your device to avoid any unseen complications.

To all the guys that have previously downgraded to lollipop and are scared that this new update will have the same bugs as the previous marshmallow update, I assure you it is different.
