Anyways, while I was away I heard of a new 4G LTE network that just arrived in Nigeria called InterC. According to the locations page on their website, they will start operations in Abuja, Kaduna and Port Harcourt first, before rolling out to Lagos and other locations later. which surprises me, Lagos is supposed to be the first because it has a larger customer base

So right now, we have the following 4G LTE Network in Nigeria

  1. InterC
  2. Smile

  4. Ntel

Your IPhone 6 May Be Infected With The Touch Disease

After spending your entire life savings plus your semester school fees on a brand new iPhone 6 plus, you wake up one morning and notice that your iPhone no longer responds to touch.
IPhone 6 touch disease

According to several reports, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are suffering from a serious disease called the 'touch disease'. The disease starts with a flickering bar that appears at the top of the iPhones’ screens, this bar doesn’t respond to touch. Over time, the bar grows until the whole screen no longer touches again.

This problem has been noticed since the launch of the phones but didn’t manifest until recently because the phones are starting to get old.
IPhone 6 plus touch disease
Closely look at the top of the screen of this device for better understanding of the 'flickering bar'

The cause of the disease is still unknown, but iFixit claims that the fault comes from the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus’ logic board, the part of the phone that creates communication between the different elements of the device.

So far, millions of iPhones worldwide could potentially be vulnerable to this disease, yet Apple has refused to acknowledge it as an issue.

In case you notice that your iPhone screen has a blinking bar, you might need to either replace the phone, replace the logic board or replace the Touch ICs on the logic board. Yeah, I’d rather get a new a new phone though to prevent the 'disease' from recurring.

SwiftKey Beta Version Now Supports Android Nougat Emojis

SwiftKey had a bit of trouble last month when they experienced a bug with suggestions, the app was sharing information between accounts, giving email addresses and phone numbers as suggestions to other users who never entered them.

SwiftKey for android

That made the developers to
stop all synchronization in the app(I guess that's why whenever I try typing in my email it no longer auto corrects..its too much work typing am email in full) then they rolled out a temporary fix that brought back synchronization but only for regular words, not emails and numbers.

     style="display:block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-6935496571049692"
     data-ad-slot="8694329362"
     data-ad-format="auto">

Now the final fix is here. The latest SwiftKey Beta version 6.4.1.45 brings back number, email, and other predictions containing the character @. However, all the previously learned ones have been wiped so you'll have to start all over.
The beta also adds 74 new Android Nougat's emojis as well as the skin tone modifiers for plenty of existing emojis just like on whatsapp(tap and hold on the emojis with a small grey triangle beneath them to reveal the different variations).

WHATS NEW

  1. Sync service fixed
  2. Number, email and other predictions containing '@' are turned back on. All previously learned number, email and @ predictions have been deleted but can now be relearned.
  3. Android emojis are supported
  4. Diverse emoji now available. Long press select emoji to change their skin tone

Two Nokia Android Device Show Up On Geekbench

Nokia is definitely coming back with a few Android smartphones later this year, but the Nokia that is coming back is not the Nokia that we knew before.
Nokia android device

First, the android devices that will be released later this year(or the next) will be made by a third-party company HMD. Nokia won't be manufacturing phones anymore. HMD would just use the famed NOKIA branding on their own phones.

By now, you should probably know that the company will be releasing at least two Android phones soon. However, there's a chance that Nokia might launch two more phones in late 2016 or early 2017.

The good news is two of Nokia's unannounced smartphones have already popped up at Geekbench, but before going any further, you should understand that these lists of specs can be easily fabricated.

The most advanced of the two Android devices is the Nokia 5320(guess they stuck with their naming), it will rock a quad-core processor clocked at 2.27GHz and have 2GB of RAM. The clock speed seems like that of  a high-end device but the RAM seems a bit small for a high-end device.
Aside than that, the Nokia 5320 runs a very, very old Android 4.4.4 operating system.

Nokia 5320 Android specs

The second Android smartphone leaked on Geekbench is the Nokia RM-1490. This one is listed with a single core AMD A8-5545M processor clocked at just 500MHz😑😑😑. It comes with the same amount of RAM as the 5320 model, 2GB, and runs an even older Android 4.2.2 version.

Nokia android specs

Let's just hope this isn't the Nokia android device that a lot of people have been waiting for.
Hopefully, future leaks will be more accurate than what we got until now.

New IPhone 7 Leak Solve Major Mystery

Apple’s upcoming new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are now less than a month away from being released on September 16th. With just two weeks before the devices are set to be unveiled on September 7th, we already know a lot about the upcoming devices.

Thanks to numerous leaks and reports of the iPhone 7, we know that the iPhone 7 will look a lot like last year's iPhone 6 and 6plus, having just a few changes in design.
We also know that the iPhone 7 will have an improved processor and improved cameras. We also know that the coming iPhone 7 won’t have standard headphone jacks.

Despite everything we know about the upcoming new iPhones, there is one thing that remains a mystery. And it seems that mystery may have just been solved…and a lot of people won't like what is about to happen.

READ ALSO: Here Are Some Leaked Images Of The iPhone 7

In all the information we have about Apple’s next-generation iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, it still hasn’t been confirmed that the new iPhones will actually be called “iPhone 7” and “iPhone 7 Plus.” Everyone just refers to the unreleased phones by those names, because that is how apple name their devices.

According to rumors, Apple is planning a completely redesigned iPhone for next year to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the iPhone. As a result, Apple could choose to break from its standard naming traditional since the upcoming new iPhones seem to be a second upgrade to the iPhone 6.

But Of course Apple can't choose to name it the “iPhone 6ss” because that is such a terrible name. So what might Apple name these new iPhone models?

Each year, before the official release of iPhones, the new iPhone packaging leaks. The same is the case in 2016, as simultaneous leaks from dutch blog Techtastic and from a second blog called Priceraja hints the supposed images of Apple’s retail packaging for its new iPhones.

Let’s hope that’s not the case in 2016. Why? Because according to this new Leak image, Apple’s upcoming iPhone models will be named “iPhone 6se.” which is just......

Android 7.0 Nougat has started rolling out to Nexus devices

Yesterday, Google officially released the much anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat. The update brings a whole lot of new features to the Android platform and as usual, Nexus users will be the first to get their hands on the update.

Android 7.0 Nougat roll-out
Google has started rolling out the OTA update to the following devices:
  • Nexus 6
  • Nexus 5X
  • Nexus 6P
  • Nexus Player
  • Pixel C
  • General Mobile 4G (Android One)
This marks the end of the line for 2013's Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013) as they are no longer going to receive system updates but that’s no surprise as all things must come to an end at some point.

Although Google started rolling out the update today, it will probably be a slow-staged rollout so it may take a little while before the final version of Android 7.0 Nougat arrives on your Android device.

Also, for those who were part of the Android N beta program, the next update they will receive will be the final version of Android 7.0 Nougat.

Notable Features of Android 7.0 Nougat
  1. Split-screen mode, picture-in-picture, and double tap to quickly switch.
  2. Customizable Quick Settings in Android 7.0 Nougat
  3. It brings with it the ability to set multiple locales and languages, 72 new emoji, multi-window functionality.
  4. Ability to quickly switch to the previous app (by double-tapping the multitasking button).
  5. Newly dedicated VR mode.
  6. Vulkan graphics API.
  7. Doze on the go for better battery management and new data saver for restricting data usage for background apps.
  8. Direct replies from notifications, bundled notifications.
  9. Built-in mobile data saver.
  10. file-based encryption, and much more.

Instagram Hits 1 Billion Installs On Playstore

Instagram has reached 1 billion installs on the Google Play store.

This makes it the fourth Facebook-owned app to reach the 1-billion-installs milestone, after Facebook, WhatsApp and Messenger.

Instagram hit 1 billion installs on playstore

However, this number are not accurate as it counts multiple app installs. So if I were unistall my Instagram app and reinstall it, it would be counted as a new install. Still it is a nice milestone that only a few apps have managed to reach.

Consider this, Android itself had 1.4 billion users as of Sept. 2015. Also Instagram announced back in July that it has more than 500 million monthly active users, 300 million active users daily.

The Instagram app has experienced a lot of of improvements this year. In May, it got a new logo and was redesigned to put more emphasis on the photos and videos than the app itself.
In June, Instagram rolled out a new, algorithmic timeline, which shows posts based on users interest instead of the time they were posted.
And in August, it launched Instagram Stories, a new, Snapchat-like feature that allows users to create temporary slideshows which disappear in a day.

To end this writeup, let us all welcome Instagram to the one billion installs club.

You Might Have To Start Paying A 9% Tax On Calls, Texts And Data

The Federal Government of Nigeria is proposing to introduce a bill called the Communication Service Tax CST bill, which seeks to levy 9 percent on subscribers for using various services such as voice call, SMS, MMS, data usage.

The Minister of Communication, Bayo Shittu, made this known on Wednesday while speaking at a function organized by the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry, LCCI.

Tax on call, text and data

Shittu said, “The bill is considered as a way to help increase the revenue generation of the Federal Government.

Personally, I think passing the bill would be a wrong move because placing a 9% tax on calls, texts and data might increase tariff rates of calls and prices of data which have been gradually improving recently.

Google's Video Calling And Messaging App Duo And Allo Almost Ready

Back at the Google I/O 2016 conference, the company announced that it would be launching two apps later in the year, Allo - a messaging app and Duo - a video calling app like Apple's FaceTime.

Both apps have been launched but would be available for downloads very soon.
While we wait for the official roll outs, what exactly is Allo and Duo, what can they do?

Google Allo features
Google Allo is a rival to the likes of Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Apple's iMessage – Allo. Allo is a new text messaging app coming to iOS and Android soon, but what makes it stand out from other messaging apps available?

Google Allo features

The main difference is that Allo comes with machine learning built in, courtesy of the Google Assistant.
Allo is a ‘smart’ messaging app that learns how to make conversations both easier and more productive.

Google claims that its Assistant will learn how you chat over time and give you personalised answers that you’d actually use. It'll also work when asked things like if you want to go out for dinner. It will also suggest responses to photos because the Assistant can analyse the photo and its contents, understand it and suggest a response. Pretty cool, right? You can see it in action below:
Google Allo

You can talk directly to Google Assistant via text directly in Allo, just like Facebook's chatbots. This allows you to search for stuffs without leaving the Allo app. You can easily type “@Google” in the chat window to chat directly with Google Assistant, and it’ll provide you with search results or whatever you ask.

You can also play games with Google Assistant as shown during Google I/O.
Allo is a simple-to-use but powerful app.

Allo has an incognito mode that offers end-to-end encryption and expiring chats for ‘private’ conversations, it also has private notifications to keep people around you from looking at your messages.

You sign up with your mobile number just like WhatsApp instead of using a Google account as you would expect, this means both iOS and Android users can use the service without having to register for a Google account.

With all these features and many more I failed to mention, I think Google Allo is a welcome alternative to the likes of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

Google Duo features

Coming along side Allo is Duo. Duo is a standalone video calling app that looks to take on the likes of Skype and Apple's FaceTime. I say standalone video calling app because that’s the only thing it does – there’s no messaging function like Skype, its only purpose is for video chat.

Google duo features

The Duo app has a simple, clean UI and has a tiny size of 5MB, making it an attractive option for video callers.
So what makes Google's Duo app special?
There are quite a number of cool features available on the Duo app, but its key feature of Duo is speed.

Duo has a feature called Knock Knock available for only Android users(Apple boys keep flexing your FaceTime 😝).
Knock Knock shows you a live video of the person video calling you on your lock screen, You see the person calling you before you even pick the call.

Once you answer the call, the video call starts immediately with no loading screens or lag(hanging). The Duo app is incredibly fast in performance, and I think that’ll be the major selling point of the app.

Google claims that Duo will even work with unstable network connections, which is a common affliction of video calling.

According to the company, the app can automatically adjust the video and audio quality to suit whatever kind of connection you’re on, and it can maintain a call even when switching from Wi-Fi to cellular and vice versa.

Just like Allo, Google Duo works with your mobile phone number instead of a Google account.

As I said earlier, both apps are not yet ready for download but you can Pre-register for them if you want to be notified when they are available for installs.

Google Is Working On A New Operating System Called Fuchsia

According to Android Police, Google is currently working on a new operating system(OS). But exactly what it’s designed to do remains unknown.

Android Police spotted a recently published page on popular coding site GitHub where Google asks for help from outside programmers to build a new operating system called Fuchsia.
While Google is keeping most details about the new project secret, it is clearly on the GitHub page that its aim it to build a new operating system.

Google new fuchsia OS
Google also wrote: “Pink + Purple = Fuchsia". Which I think is a hint at something.

Google owns Android - the most used mobile operating system. It also has Chrome OS for computers and Android Wear for wearable devices, among others.
However, all these operating systems have one thing in common: They are all built on Linux an open-source operating system.
Fuchsia, on the other hand, is to be built on Magenta (what's with all the colors?) a Linux alternative.

The GitHub page suggests that Google is using different programming languages to create apps for the operating system that it doesn’t use in Android OS or Chrome OS.

The million-Naira question now is: What is Google up to? What kind of devices would run Fuchsia? Android Police believes that Google using Magenta instead of Linux suggests that the project could be an operating system designed for different “embedded” devices, like an in-car system with GPS functionality.

Public opinion on Twitter have suggested that Fuchsia could be used on computers Google could produce later.
Some also say that Fuchsia OS could one day replace Android and Chrome OS by becoming a single operating system for all Google-based devices.

Ultimately, no one knows what Google intends to do with the new fuchsia OS but we will know what is finally unveiled.

How To Flash ROMs To Android Devices Without PC

In one of my previous post, a reader requested that I write a post on how to flash roms on Android.
In this post, I will explain how you can  easily flash ROMs to your Android device.

How to flash custom ROM on Android
I tried my best to make it as easy as possible so it shouldn't be too hard to understand.

I would assume that you have already downloaded the ROM you want to flash into your Android device so I'll go ahead and explain how to flash roms into your Android device.

How To Flash ROMs To Android Devices

Note: Flashing roms on different android devices might require different steps for however the steps are always a bit similar.
I'll be using the steps to flash roms on Infinix Hot note.

Playstation 4.5 4k

Seagate Builds World Largest SSD With 60TB Disk Space

Last week, Samsung announced that it had built the largest SSD in the world, a 15.36TB drive that cost $10,000.

This week, Seagate has created an SSD four times the size of Samsung's 15TB SSD with 60TB space in a 3.5-inch format and Seagate says it should be available sometime in 2017. The drive will be displayed at the 2016 Flash Memory Summit.

60 terabytes is a crazy amount of data, I mean, that's 60,000 gigabytes for Christ's sake; the hard drive can store 400 million standard-sized photos or 12,000 movies.

The 60TB drive is created for enterprise use same as Samsung's 15TB drive.
Seagate also hints that it could scale up storage up to 100TB in the same format. However, until Seagate finally releases this monstrous drive next year, Samsung still holds the title for the largest SSD you can buy.

By the way, imagine the size difference between this hard drive and the 5mb hard drive I wrote about days ago.

QuadRooter: New Android Vulnerabilities Found In Over 900 Million Devices

QuadRooter: New Android Vulnerabilities Found In Over 900 Million Devices
An Israeli security firm - Check Point recently discovered a set of four vulnerabilities affecting over 900 million Android smartphones and tablets powered by Qualcomm chipsets. The Check Point mobile threat research team, calls the set of vulnerabilities QuadRooter.

What is QuadRooter?
According to Check Point, "QuadRooter is a set of four vulnerabilities affecting Android devices built using Qualcomm chipsets".
Qualcomm is the world’s leading maker of LTE chipsets, responsible for 65% of the LTE modem baseband market. If any one of the four vulnerabilities is exploited, the attacker can gain root access to the device.

What Android devices are Affected?
Some of the latest and most popular Android devices are vulnerable to this exploit.
Some of them include:

  • BlackBerry Priv(Touted as one of the most secure Android devices)
  • Blackphone 1 and Blackphone 2(both privacy focused devices)
  • The New Moto X by Motorola
  • Google Nexus 5X, Nexus 6 and Nexus 6P
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung S7 Edge
  • HTC One, HTC M9 and HTC 10
  • LG G4, LG G5, and LG V10
  • Sony Xperia Z Ultra
  • OnePlus One, OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3

An attacker can exploit these vulnerabilities using a malicious app. The app would require no special/suspicious permissions to take advantage of these vulnerabilities, preventing any suspicion users may have when installing.

How To Check If Your Phone Is Vulnerable To QuadRooter?
Check point has created an android app that allows you to check if your device is vulnerable to QuadRooter.
You can install the app from Google’s playstore here.

See The Size Of A 5MB Hard Drive In 1956

Technology advancement is an important part of civilization itself.
Before I continue with this post, ask you yourself "Can you survive if your phone had a storage space of 5MB?"

Back in September 1956, IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, the first ‘SUPER’ computer with a hard disk drive (HDD). The HDD weighed over a ton and stored a whooping 5 MB of data.
IBM 5MB hard disk drive 1956
The 5MB hard drive wasn't even available for sale, companies could only rent it at $3,200/month which is around $30,000 right now.

The hard disk drive had to be moved with a fork lift.

5mb hard drive IBM 1956
Today, you can get hard disks as large as 2TB that can easily fit into your back pocket and cost less than $100.

Nosa of TechRez once wrote an article condemning 16GB variant iPhones saying 'they should die'. I wonder what he would have said if he was around back then.

If this much has changed in just fifty years, how would Technology be like in the next 100 years?
Humans would probably be flying by then.

For now there is no information as to when MTN 4G LTE service will be fully rolled out but for now, it is already being tested in Ibadan, Lagos and Abuja. If you recently migrated from Visafone CDMA network to MTN, you should have 4G Active.

Before I sign out, I have a quick question for you. How is Glo network coverage? Let me know via the comment box.
