WhatsApp Video Calling Is Live!

Since Facebook acquired WhatsApp back in 2014, the popular messaging app has seen a lot of great improvements.
However one of the most important and anticipated feature that has been missing is the video calling feature.

Now, that's a thing of the past as I just spotted the video calling feature on my WhatsApp this evening while I was trying to chat with a friend.
WhatsApp Video Calling

Though it seems the WhatsApp video calling feature is currently only available for beta testers(like me😊)  but expect it to be available on the official version very soon.

To use video calling on WhatsApp, all you have to do is click on the 'Call icon' at the top of your screen then you'll see an option to either make a voice call or video call.
WhatsApp Video Call

If the person you are trying to video call hasn’t updated to the beta version, you would see an error message like this:
WhatsApp Video Call

There is an option to record a video message if the person you're calling isn’t available at the time of the call kinda like Voice mail so let's call it 'Video mail' LOL.

This new WhatsApp feature is a piss in Google's soup as it puts the Big, Bad WhatsApp against Google's newly launched video calling app DUO.
Whatsapp is one of the most popular messaging app and almost anyone with a smartphone has Whatsapp installed unlike Google Duo.

If Google wants to edge out WhatsApp Video Calling, it should concentrate on the quality and data usage of its Duo app. Because judging from the bad quality of WhatsApp voice calling, I suspect that the new video calling wouldn't be so far off.

Ghen Ghen! Another iPhone 7 Explodes And Blows Car Up

Earlier this month, news of an iPhone 7 explosion went viral, and now, another one has occurred this time in Australia.

This ongoing series of exploding iPhone 7s is already causing users to panic.
As they say, 'first time is a mistake, second time is a pattern' .
Let's all hope a pattern of exploding iPhone 7s isn't being created because if it is, Apple might face the same fate that befell Samsung causing them to permanently halt all Galaxy Note 7 productions worldwide.
Iphone 7 Explodes
Add caption
In the latest incident, an iPhone 7 user Mat Jones said he left his phone under a bunch of clothes in his car and went for a surfing lesson. Unfortunately for him, on his rmeturn, he found his car filled with smoke.
His iPhone 7 had caught fire and burnt his car's interior completely.

He is now left with no phone and no car,
as his car was badly damaged during the fire.
Iphone 7 explosion
Apple is aware of the incident and will investigate the events that led to the phone’s explosion. The investigation would determine whether or not the incident was caused by a defect.

Note:The iPhone 7 was kept under clothes, in a car parked at the beach, so it is possible that the explosion was caused by overheating in the car.

If you have any phone, No matter what model it is, don’t let it overheat, and definitely do NOT charge it on your bed near a pillow, phones can get really hot if they are charging and end up under a pillow.

Since its launch, there have been numerous reports of the flagship device exploding causing the company to recall all Note 7 devices on two occasions.
Samsung then issued replacement phones with updated software and a new battery supplier, but those phones also caught fire.

Founder Of MyWapblog About To Shut It Down

When I started out blogging I wasn't always on Naijatechs.com, My love for blogging was so great that even when I didn't have money to buy a domain(I didn't even know what it meant at the time) I had not a just a blog but several blogs.
However due to the fact that I was still in Secondary school at the time, I had to stick with free blogs on free domains.

I had Yungsamm.wapka.mobi, Yungsamm.heck.in, Techgist.tk, Ogasamm.wordpress.com(don't you dare laugh), Hackgist.blogspot.com before I finally had Naijatechs.com.

In all of the free blogs I owned, the one I liked more was Yungsamm.heck.in which was hosted on MyWapblog. When I used it, I felt like a professional blogger but I had to leave because I needed to get a domain name and that was somehow difficult to do on the platform.

Last week, I heard that the founder of MyWapblog, Arvind Gupta(I still remember his name😸) was shutting down the platform for unknown reasons.

I must admit, even though I left MyWapblog a long time ago, I still felt somehow when I got the news. I hurriedly went to check my old blog Yungsamm.heck.in and to my surprise, it was no longer there.

I also noticed that registration for new blogs had been closed.
Thereby confirming the rumor that the blogging platform was indeed being shut down.

Some of the users had a few words to say, see them below.

Etisalat Increase Data Plan Prices

At a time when Glo is seriously making data cheaper, Etisalat just decided to do the exact opposite by reducing their data capacity.
Is it the economic crisis, I don't know, I don't care?
Etisalat increase data plan prices
Credit: Misstechy
After launching their 4G LTE network one would expect them to reduce their data plan price or keep it the way it was not increase; but they seem to have done the least expected.
Now, all their subscribers would be running back to Glo like;
Etisalat increase data plan prices

These was Etisalat data plans before now;

  • 1.5GB for N1000
  • 3.5GB for N2,000
  • 5GB for N6,500
  • 8GB for N8000
  • 10GB for N10,000

But now, they have increased the prices of their Monthly data plan prices as seen below;

  • 1GB for N1000
  • 1.5GB for N1200
  • 1GB + 500MB night plan for N1000
  • 2.5GB for N2000
  • 3.5GB for N2500
  • 2GB + 1.5GB night plan N2000

Coming at a time when things are really hard and everyone is out looking for cheap stuffs, I think this is a really bad move.

How To Rent A House Successfully

When growing up, every person is facing many difficulties. It becomes even more complicated, when you have to think about a job and a place to live. Some things may scare you, some make you puzzled. Too much to consider, too many decisions to take… Nevertheless, there is no need to make things more complicated than they really are. At least, if we are speaking about renting a house.
How to Rent a House Successfully

What to start with?

There are a lot of people responsible and smart enough to make things work on their own. However, if you are a greenie, who is starting an independent adult (or not really adult) life, think about some help. Hire a professional, who is aware of all property rules, tax system, current situation on the market and some other affairs you are not great at. It is not laziness and definitely not a shame. Asking a professional for help means investing in your future reliability.

What about a property owner?

First impression means a lot, but it still doesn’t give you a complete picture of the situation. You should always carefully screen a landlord before signing any documents. Google is always ready to show you, what it knows. If a person is involved in some scandals or machinations, it may be not the best person to trust with your comfort and well-being.

Price issues

As always, you should estimate fairly, which type of dwelling you can afford. Rental cost depends on the combination of different factors – square, facilities, area etc. In addition to that, you may be required to pay for a month, season or year in advance. Consider this detail, too. It may happen that the house of your dreams is not exactly the one you can rent right now. However, it doesn’t mean that you’ll fail to make another place a dream place to live.

Price vs. Comfort

This battle of titans can cause some discomfort. Nevertheless, it is possible to find a compromise. For this, you will need to make a list of features you would like to get, and then compare affordable options with those parameters. Don’t be too stubborn, define the priorities. If your resources aren’t unlimited, be ready to give up something.
Renting a house in Lagos

Try to enlist as many details as it is possible and mark them according to your needs and preferences. Fireplace, piano, patio, backyard, garden, type of bathroom and stove, situation of bedrooms… You can make several sketches and work on several variants. Sometimes you have to decide very fast – the number of rivals is always unexpected.

What about normal life?

We don’t want to make you even more confused. ‘Normal life’ here is about your daily routine. How far is your work? How far is school (in case you have kids)? How good is it? How far is supermarket? What are the options for eating out and having fun? It is what your life consists of. You always can give up some things, but such banality, as spending too much time for getting from one place to another can make you irritated and stressed. And don’t forget to check out crime rates.
Cheap houses in Lagos

Serious business

After everything mentioned above is completed, the time for making serious decisions comes. Make sure everything is okay (or better than okay), and start the negotiations. Study the lease agreement carefully and do not forget to pay attention to what is typed in small letters. Neglecting such comments is always funny and has a happy ending in cartoons, but things are usually different in real life.

Is it done?

Well, almost done, and we are close to the finish line. The last thing you need to do is to open the link and scan the list of houses for rent in Nigeria.

With Jiji, the biggest Nigerian classifieds, you will be able to avoid the majority of difficulties and inconveniences. At the same time, you can be sure to find the lowest prices and communicate with sellers directly. Renting of the perfect house starts with the perfect marketplace.

Samsung Stops Galaxy Note 7 Production

After several cases of Galaxy Note 7 explosions, it seems Samsung is finally heeding my advice;
If you ask me, I would suggest Samsung just kill the Galaxy Note 7 and start planning for the perfect Note 8.
It is safe to say that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is the worst thing that ever happened to Samsung.
Samsung Stops Galaxy Note 7 production

When the explosions started I thought it,  was a one time thing but then several others followed, forcing Samsung to order a worldwide recall of all Galaxy Note 7 and issued a replacement device but it seems even the replacements are not any safer resulting in a large loss for Samsung.

To make matters worse, Top American carriers T-Mobile and AT&T are no longer selling the device, and all four major carriers are accepting unconditional exchanges to a new device.

Korean new Agency Yonhap reported on Monday morning that Samsung has stopped the production of Galaxy Note 7. The pause could be temporary or it could be the final nail in the galaxy note 7's casket. However, it is unofficial as Samsung has declined to comment on the story when asked by news agencies.

How To Know If Your Device Supports 4G LTE Network

In less than two months, we've seen three out of the four major telecom companies in Nigeria unveil 4G LTE Network.
MTN started the cycle back in September followed by Glo then Etisalat last week.

4G network is the IT thing now but to enjoy fast 4G Internet connection you need a smartphone that supports 4G connectivity.
Most recently released smartphones support 4G BUT not all so how do you know if your smartphone is one of the lucky few?

How To Know If Your Smartphone Supports 4G

Android
For Android Users, go to settings -> Network settings -> mobile network. You should see a dropdown menu showing all supported networks such as 2G, 3G or LTE (4G). If you don’t see 4G or LTE, then your smartphone doesn’t support 4G LTE.
How to know if your smartphone supports 4G

iPhone
for the Apple boys, go to Settings -> General -> cellular -> Enable 4G LTE.

Windows
For Windows device users, go to Settings -> Celluar + Sim -> Highest connection speed and check if LTE is part of the options.

Blackberry
On your BB device, Go to setting -> Network and Connection -> Mobile Network -> Network mode and you’ll see 4G & 3G & 2G. If you use a Blackberry Q5 and below, you won’t get 4G network services.

Once you’ve selected LTE and you’ve on a 4G network, the “LTE” symbol will appear on the phone status bar replacing either “3G”, “H” or “2G” symbols.

AT & T To Stop Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Sales

Popular US carrier AT&T is considering ending all further sales of the 'cursed' Note 7, according to a report from Bloomberg.
AT&T stop note 7 sales
If this happens, AT&T will immediately stop sales of the "safe" Samsung Note 7 replacement devices — one of which caught fire on a Southwest Airlines plane on Wednesday — and the carrier may also stop exchanging defective Note 7 for the new replacement phones.

Instead, AT&T will allow its customers who bought the Note 7 to return it for another smartphone of their choice.

The fire incident on Southwest Airlines flight has Samsung's carrier partners worried; they already dealt with the initial recall, and it appears AT&T may be tired of taking chances with the Note 7.

If AT&T stop sales of Samsung Note 7s, it could make other carriers do the same — leaving Samsung little choice but to call off the Note 7's US release.

Samsung's replacement Note 7s haven't yet been officially deemed dangerous by Samsung or federal investigators.
However if you ask me, I would suggest Samsung just kill the Galaxy Note 7 and start planning the perfect smartphone for Note 8.

Etisalat 4G LTE Services Is Officially Announced

Few days ago, Glo the Grand Master Of Data Plans unleashed its 4G LTE service with unrivaled data plans. In the previous post about Glo's 4G services, we told Etisalat and Airtel to step up their game and bring their own 4G services and it seems like one of them has listened.

Earlier yesterday, Etisalat users in some major cities like Lagos reported seeing Etisalat 4G LTE active and live on their devices. See the speed test below;
Etisalat 4G LTE speed test

I’m still waiting for other cities to confirm if the service is available in their area.
Unlike Glo and MTN, Etisalat SIMs are automatically USIM(Universal Subscriber Identity Module) which means you don't need to upgrade your sim before you get the 4G network.

Another good thing  is that, most 4G enabled smartphones will support Etisalat 4G LTE Network because it’s on a largely supported frequency band. Unlike Glo 4G LTE which is on band 28; a frequency band that is not supported by most 4G devices.

Etisalat 4G LTE network

Etisalat has publicly announced this on their twitter handle.
Those of you still using 3G phones, I told you before throw that phone into the ocean and get a 4G-enabled one.

Tecno To Start Manufacturing Phones In Nigeria Soon

After 10years of operation in the Middle East and African Market, Tecno Mobile is making plans to set up a Manufacturing plant in Nigeria.

The company said it has secured a large expanse of land in one of the choicest areas of Lagos.
According to Tecno Deputy Manager, Attai Oguche, the firm is committed to the Nigerian market, hence the need to site a manufacturing plant in the country.

"Tecno had its first African manufacturing plant in Ethiopia, the company has established presence in 48 territories, “Nigeria, Kenya and Tanzania respectively being the company's biggest African market.”

I think this is a really good move Tecno, if the phones are produced here in Nigeria the prices will be better due to the absence of shipping charges.

Apple Start Showing Ads In App Store Search Results

Apple has started showing adverts in its iOS App Store for US users. When you search for popular terms like "taxi," "calendar," or "to do list", a banner advert for promoted apps show up above the search results same way Google does with its search results.
Ads in Apple store
Apple announced plans for this earlier this year, and some iPhone and iPad users who signed up for the iOS 10 beta program have been seeing the ads. From this week onwards, the ads would be rolling out to regular users too.

The addition of paid ads is part of Apple's plan to improve its revenue model for apps. As the App Store becomes more crowded, it's become harder for apps to stand out. Paid ads can fight this, and Apple is also helping out by purging the App Store of abandoned apps.

Will the paid ads work or will they be used in a way that will harm users? For example, spammers might just use paid ads to hijack popular search results.

Teen Girl Hospitalized As E-cigarette Explodes

A 14-year-old American girl was hospitalized after a man’s e-cigarette exploded on an Express train ride on Saturday, according to local media reports.

The teenager, whose name was not released, was on vacation with her family when a man’s e-cigarette commonly called 'E-Cig' exploded in his pocket.

Just in case you don't know what an E-cigarette is, An electronic cigarette or e-cigarette is a handheld electronic device that vaporizes a flavored liquid. The user inhales the vapor kinda like smoking. However it is considered to be safer than smoking tobacco.
E-cigarette
Orlando police said that when the malfunctioning e-cigarette exploded, it shot a small fire ball at the girl, causing burns to her face, arm and leg.

The Washington Post reported a small burn hole on the ride’s seat, and said that the ride had temporarily been shut down.

The rate at which electronic devices are exploding everywhere us really alarming. We've had several Samsung Note 7 explosions, a Samsung Note 2 exploded in a plane, an iPhone 7 exploded on delivery now an E-cigarette.
It's beginning to look like these electronic devices are waging war on the human race.
