You can also customize the post by adding different colored backgrounds, along with different choices for fonts and sizes. You can also highlight specific words or phrases in your post. You may also decide to use a photo as the background image for your text status.

Truecaller Introduces Backup Feature For Its Android App

Truecaller, the popular caller ID app, has launched a new feature "Truecaller Backup for Android", which allows users to backup and restore their contacts, call history, block list, and settings.

truecaller backup

The feature comes in handy when you’re switching to a new phone, getting a new SIM card, or resetting your device. Truecaller Backup simplifies transition to a new phone without losing contacts, call logs, etc.

For example, I recently lost my simcard causing me to lose all contacts, my only saving grace was that I previously synced my contacts with Google which backed some of my lost contacts, so I got about 60% of the lost contacts due to inconsistent syncs(beats losing them all right?)

At first, the backup will be hosted only on Google Drive but the company plans to expand the options to other backup storage soon.
Users can customize how often the backup takes place between daily, weekly, monthly, and on-demand.

The Truecaller Backup for Android feature has been rolled out already, but it will officially be available to users  over the next couple of days.

Though switching appearance settings on the app is cool but not as cool as multiple accounts

Whatsapp To Stop Working On These Platforms Come December 31st

According to a blog post on WhatsApp blog, WhatsApp will stop working on some smartphones and mobile platforms in the new year(2018).

From 1 January 2018, the messenger app won’t work on any device running Windows Phone 8.0 (or older versions of the operating system), BlackBerry OS or BlackBerry 10.

According to whatsApp, “When we started WhatsApp in 2009, people’s use of mobile devices looked very different from today. The Apple App Store was only a few months old. About 70 percent of smartphones sold at the time had operating systems offered by BlackBerry and Nokia,” it reads.
whatsapp stop support for devices
“Mobile operating systems offered by Google, Apple and Microsoft – which account for 99.5 percent of sales today – were on less than 25 percent of mobile devices sold at the time.”

The platforms that are being unsupported are unpopular, and have been for some time. The company ended support for Nokia Symbian S60 devices back in June.

They are also planning to stop support for Nokia S40 devices on 31 December 2018 and phones running Android versions 2.3.7(GingerBread) and older on 1 February 2020.
Although these devices are still supported, WhatsApp is no longer actively developing for them, which means some features could stop functioning at any moment.

“While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future,” the company's blog post said..

“This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp.

“If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone."

I don't think this would affect a lot people because I doubt people still use the targeted devices.

UC Browser Has Returned To Google Playstore

About a week ago, Alibaba group's popular browser UC browser was taken off the google playstore however, it has returned to the popular App store.
Reason for its removal being that UC Browser was allegedly using unhealthy and misleading practices to promote its app.

UC browser back in playstore
According to the group, this has been rectified in the latest build which was uploaded to Google Play. The company in a statement said the new version is available for users with updated technical settings strictly in line with Google Play's policy.

UC browser currently has over 500,000 installs on play store and it is without a doubt one of the fastest browser when it comes to downloading stuffs online.

After all the craziness, UC browser is back online and you can get it from the google play store now.

I'll try to install the app, see if I can spot any differences.

Twitter Bringing Its Data-saving 'lite' App To Developing Countries

Twitter Lite was launched earlier this year as a Web app. However now, Twitter is packaging its data-friendly, space-saving Lite mobile web app into a regular app version, starting with Android.

Twitter lite

Twitter is currently testing out the Android app only in the Philippines for now, which might lead to a large scale later on.

The Twitter Lite app takes up less space on your device (less than 3MB), and demand less resources, so it can load faster on low-end to mid-range smartphones.

More importantly, the app is made to work under poor network conditions, so it'll have some caching to work offline. It'll also show a preview of images and videos, and will only download media if the user chooses to.

Remember that Facebook launched its low-data version, Facebook Lite on Android two years ago.

By February this year, Facebook Lite already grew its user base to 200 million.

Google Launches New Experimental Data Saving App 'TRIANGLE'

One major challenge most smartphone users face is the issue of data usage and Google has brought a solution to the problem.

Though this isn't the first time Google is coming up with a means to save data as there's a data saving option present on the chrome browser.

But the new Triangle app offers something better.

Google triangle data saver
Google is testing a new app called Triangle, the app allows users to customize how apps are allowed to use data by choosing between options like 10 minutes at a time, 30 minutes or “Always.”

The app shows you which apps are using your data the most and gives you an option to suspend them.

For people that have problems with background apps draining their data, you will value this app the most.

Officially, Google is testing this app in Philipines but you can download it from APK mirror here and watch the app help you with your data saving issues.

Google Launch Allo The Smartest Messaging App

If you're ever going to create a new messaging app, it had better be something unique. In this time, finding a place amongst popular messaging app like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and iMessage is not an easy task. When Google launched Hangouts back in 2013,it didn't really pull it off.

So Google is coming back again with Allo, a messaging app that uses the company's biggest strengths to stand out from other messaging apps. That strength is the famous 'Google search'.

Google messaging app

The Allo app is greatly integrated with the Google Now chatbot. Making it the smartest messaging app out there.
You can ask what tomorrow's weather would look like, suggest replies to conversations, get travel information and many more.

Just like the recently launched Duo Video Calling App, Allo is a mobile-only app. It doesn't have a web version.

To sign up for Google Allo, you use your phone number and attach your Google account. Allo users on your contact list will automatically display, while those who aren't on the service can easily be invited to download the app.

Facebook Celebrate One Billion Active Users On Messenger

More than 1 billion people now use Facebook Messenger every month, Facebook announced yesterday. Facebook now has two messaging services with over 1 billion users, as WhatsApp hit a billion back in February.

Messenger one billion users

"As part of this journey to 1 billion, we focused on creating the best possible experiences in modern day communications," Facebook Messenger chief David Marcus said in a statement. "We remain focused on helping connect people to the people and businesses who matter most. Thank you to everyone who uses Messenger around the world, and we're looking forward to connecting the next billion."

Whatever You Do, DO NOT Install FLASH KEYBOARD

Android is an open-source OS meaning people can tweak the OS and change a few things. While this is my favorite feature of Android, sometimes it might work against you as it also makes it easier for hackers and Malwares to access private information on your device.

A few weeks ago, I told you about one of the most dreadful malwares in Android history, the godless apps.

In today's post, I will be telling you another app you should avoid by all means!

Today's culprit is Flash Keyboard, a very popular third-party keyboard app with over 50 million installs and a 4.3 rating on Google play store but DO NOT be deceived by these numbers.

Flash keyboard malware

A UK-based cyber-security firm, Pentest discovered Flash Keyboard to be asking for Too much permissions, displaying infected ads, asking for administrative privileges in order to make Uninstaller the app difficult, tracking user behavior, and then sending the data to servers in China without the user’s permission.

In more simple words, Flash Keyboard app is spying on Android users and security experts have already classified the app as a “malware.”

Pentest discovered that the app requires unwanted access such as access to a phone’s Bluetooth connection, WiFi status, geo-location feature, which a normal keyboard app would not require.

Also, the app would ask for access to kill background processes, read your SMS messages, show system overlays, or remove download notifications. Pentest says there is no reasons for a keyboard app to need all these permissions.

Flash Keyboard also asks for device admin permissions, and it uses these powers to take over your smartphone’s lock screen and show ads even if you don't allow it.

To make matter worse, Flash Keyboard secretly transfers data to unidentified servers based in China and other foreign countries.
Flash Keyboard also transmits sensitive user data such as the owner’s email address, device manufacturer, Model number, IMEI number and Android version to what it believes to be analytics servers in the US, Netherlands and China.

It also sends details of the current connected Wi-Fi network and other networks in its range, identity of the mobile network being used and GPS coordinates(Location) of the user.

In summary, save yourself from all these troubles and DON'T install FLASH KEYBOARD!
It's not like it even has good functions..
If you need a good third-party keyboard app, I recommend you use SwiftKey.

Do This Quick Tip To Save Your Battery And Data

I know that Valentine's day was yesterday but I still love in the air.
Happy  Belated Valentine's Day To You!

So in the spirit of love, I'll be sharing a quick tip you can do to better conserve your battery and data.

With the current epileptic state of power in Nigeria and the exorbitant prices of data plans, there is need to save your battery and keep your data consumption to the lowest minimum.

AVG, An Antivirus maker recently released a list of battery draining, data consuming apps that you should probably consider uninstalling from your device.

The Facebook app ranked Number 6 in the list of battery draining apps and Number 1 in the list of data hogging applications.
According to them, Unistalling Facebook from your devices will make them 'noticeably' faster and your battery would last a 'bit' longer.

Knowing that no one would want to remove Facebook app from their devices, I came up with a way to walk around it.

All you have to do is Unistall the regular Facebook app and install the lighter version of FACEBOOK LITE.

Not all does this increase your phone's speed and save your battery, it also uses less storage space as the app is just 554KB.

If you check my phone, you would not see the Facebook app, just Facebook lite.

How save data and battery on android

The user interface of the Facebook lite may not be as good as the regular Facebook app but it does the job well and it's still in blue and white colours like the normal Facebook app so I guess that should be manageable... LOL
One other added advantage of using the Facebook Lite is that you don't have to separately install Facebook messenger app to send messages as you normally do on the regular Facebook app because you can directly send and receive messages with Facebook lite.

So..... Save your battery... Conserve Your Data ... Install Facebook lite today!

Hehe...That sounded like a presidential campaign speech right? I know...
But seriously, install Facebook lite.

Phone Prices Increase As Dollar Price Goes Through The Roof

Phone Prices Increase As Dollar Price Goes Through The Roof
It is a known fact that when the dollar - Naira exchange rate increases, prices of things generally tend to spike.

We are currently experiencing an all time low as the Naira is coming really weak against the US dollar and as is normal, the prices of things have started to increase drastically. For example the domain name for Naijatechs.com which I initially bought for ₦1,750/yr, I got an email earlier this week announcing that it now costs ₦3,000/year.
Products that are imported or bought abroad such as our Mobile phones are usually at forefront of the price increase.

Take Innjoo devices for example;

  • Innjoo Halo which was N13,900 is now N21,260
  • Innjoo One which was N28,000 is now N39,000
  • Innjoo Fire plus which was N27,600 is now N41,400
  • Innjoo Max 2 Plus was N23,500 now N35,030
  • Innjoo Max 2 was N21,500 now N31,840

                                                              SMH

Infinix devices weren't left out as their prices as their prices also increase;

  • Infinix Hot Note X551(1GB RAM) was N24,000 it is now N29,900
  • Infinix Hot Note X551(2GB RAM) was N27,500 it is now N34,500
  • Infinix Hot 2(1GB RAM) was N18,500 now N21,500
  • Infinix Note 2 X600(1GB RAM) was N30,500 now it is N35,500
  • Infinix Zero 2 was N33,500 now it is N49,500
Other devices also experienced a price increase but i'll stop here.
For people that buy stuffs from foreign stores like Gearbest, how much were you charged per dollar?

Browse Free With MTN Music Plus On Android And PC

Since the extinction of imei tweaking, people have resorted to using apps like Simple Server, Open VPN, Psiphone, Http Injector, Tweakware and all others to browse on their android phones and PCs such as the BBLite subscription For Android, Etisalat chat pak, MTN 2GO MB.

In today's post, I will be showing you how to use music plus on android phones, Browsing with MTN music plan is similar to using 2go 3gb plan and Etisalat Chat pak and Social Pak because in all three cases, you subscribe for a plan and instead of using the data gotten for the plans we subscribed for, we use apps like Simple server and others to make it work for all other things.

Let me try to explain how the above procedure is possible, I'll use the MTN 3GB 2GO plan.
Recently, You could get free 3gb worth of data for 2go on MTN but the problem was that the data could only work for 2go and it's obvious that almost nobody uses 2go so there was need to find a way to use this data for other things since we couldn't afford for this data to go to waste and that was when simple server came along.

Simple Server acts as an intermediary "a middle-man" between your phone and the data, when you configure your simple server correctly and browse with it, it clones your phone and makes it seem like you are 2going whereas you aren't.

We are going to use the same method for the MTN music plus plan, MTN currently gives free 150MB to be used to stream and to music on the music plus app but just like I explained earlier, we are going to use simple server to make it power all apps.

To use the MTN Music plus plan on android first, you send MUSIC to 5900, wait for a confirmation message then Send D to 5900, dail *559*2# to check balance.

Now open your simple server(preferably the latest version) and configure it using the following settings.

  • Proxy host - 10.199.212.2
  • Proxy Port - 8080
  • Injection Query/Url - http://musicplus.mtnonline.com
  • Injection host - musicplus.mtnonline.com
  • Injection Type - Get
  • Injection Line - Press your enter key four times
  • Log Level - Debug
  • Connection Timeout - 10
  • Buffer Size - 8092

Now go to your Phone's settings - Mobile Networks - Access point Names and create a new APN(If you were using BBLite or 2go Mb before, just select the APN you created before).

  • Proxy - 10.199.212.2
  • Port - 8080
  • APN type - Default
  • APN - web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
  • Leave the rest as they are
Close your settings, Open simple server and power it up.

How To Use MTN Music Plus On PC

To make the mtn music plus plan work on pc, you have to have simple server for pc installed on your PC.
If you don't have it, you can download simple server for pc here
Right-click and extract the download simple server to your PC
Open the extracted folder and locate simple server.ini, it should open with your notepad.

Check through, you should see VALHDR0 clear whatever is in front of it and put musicplus.mtnonline.com so it would end up looking like VALHDR0 = 'musicplus.mtnonline.com/'.
Check lower again, IQUERY clear whatever is in front of it and input musicplus.mtnonline.com so it would now look like IQUERY = 'musicplus.mtnonline.com/' now press ctrl + S to save it the close your note pad.
Now, locate Simple server.exe and run it.

Go to settings in your modem's dashboard and create a new APN.
  • APN - web.gprs.mtnnigeria.com
  • Username - Web
  • Password - Web

How To make MTN Music Plus Work On FIREFOX

Open Firefox go to options - Advanced - Network - Under connections click settings and configure it as follows

- Proxy - 127.0.0.1
- Port - 8080
Click use this server for all protocols(compulsory)
Click OK and fire On!

To Make MTN Music Plus Work On Chrome

Click on settings - Under Network click on change proxy settings - Click settings.
Click use a proxy server for this connection

Address - 127.0.0.1
Port - 8080

Click bypass proxy server for local addresses

How to use Mtn music plus on Android and pc
Click the OK button and browse On!

The major advantage of using mtn music plus plan is that you can renew it as much as you want free of charge.

When you finish the first 150MB you given, send D to 5900 you will be given another 150MB and when you exhaust that one too, send cancel7d to 5900, wait for a reply then send D to 5900 again you will be given another one when you finish that one send cancel7d to 5900 then D just like that you keep cancel and renewing until you are too tired to browse.

An addictive Game Is Hidden In Google Chrome

Yesterday, I was browsing on Google Chrome with a WiFi router and unexpectedly it disconnected and showed.

You are Offline
WiFi and mobile data are unavailable. The page can be loaded once the device connects to a network.

Hidden game in Google Chrome

Out of frustration and impatience I kept tapping the screen and I noticed that the animal(dinosaur) on the left came to life and started running, I was really surprised.

As the Dino ran, there were cactus obstacles in its way and I found out that I could make if jump by tapping the screen.

So I kept playing the game which I became so addicted to that I forgot I was browsing.

It's an endless running game like Subway Surfers and Temple run.

To play the Google Chrome game on your Android all you have to do is switch off your data connection and try loading a page on it like try visiting a website with your data switched off, you should see a page saying;

You are Offline
WiFi and mobile data are unavailable. The page cam be loader once the device connects to a network.

Now, just tap anywhere on the screen and the dinosaur on the left would come alive just as I explained earlier, tap anywhere on your screen to jump over the obstacles.

To play the game on your PC, disable your connection(it's an offline game) and when it shows the 'You're Offline'  page, instead of tapping your screen you tap the space bar and also use the space bar to jump over obstacles.

For iOS users, I haven't tried it out on an iPhone or iPad yet.
You could try testing out using the method for Android. And let us know the outcome by posting your feedback in the comments section below.

Wow! You made it this far!
