It's Official! Blackberry Stops Phone Manufacturing

The end of an era has finally come as the once prominent phone maker, blackberry has officially announced to stop the production of smartphones.
Blackberry stop making phones
In a post I wrote earlier, I said that blackberry might stop production of smartphones but I didn't think they could go through with it.

We saw this coming, and it is not entirely shocking because blackberry which was among the world’s largest smartphone makers a decade ago, has been struggling to keep the ship sailing as the smartphone market has been taken over by Apple and Android devices.

In October 2015, Blackberry CEO John Chen said that the company would exit the smartphone business, which has been on life support for years, if it cannot turn a profit in 2016.

… and now, Blackberry announced within their Q2 Fiscal 2017 results,
“Our new Mobility Solutions strategy is showing signs of momentum, including our first major device software licensing agreement with a telecom joint venture in Indonesia. Under this strategy, we are focusing on software development, including security and applications. The company plans to end all internal hardware development and will outsource that function to partners. This allows us to reduce capital requirements and enhance return on invested capital”.
Just as I suggested in this post.

Blackberry will now fully concentrate on software development including security applications.

As stated in the report, "The company plans to end all internal hardware development and will outsource that function to partners"
The million-naira question is, who will these partners be, who will be making phones for blackberry now?

My heart pains for all those who gave up their everything to get Blackberry Bold 5 and those that sold the father's properties to buy a Blackberry Porsche back in the days.

I'll forever remember how annoying it was waiting all those minutes for your Blackberry phone to boot.
